The Blue and Gold
FFA(Future Farmers Of America) is a youth organization that changes lives and prepares the members for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
I interviewed a couple of the members of the Spurger FFA chapter about how FFA impacted their lives and how it changed them. Senior, Jillian Leasmen said she started doing FFA because “all of my friends were doing it and they said it was fun and so I tried it and fell in love with the FFA family, FFA has taught me more about responsibility and how to make connections with people I never thought I would have”. She said, “the organization made it easier for me to make friends that would last a lifetime”.
Senior Cole Simpson has been in the organization since freshman year. He says that “FFA has taught me that there is more to high school than just the sports, it has also taught me things that I could care about throughout my life”. Cole was one of the four students to win the State Forestry competition ,they all said that it was a “shocking feeling”, but at the same time a bittersweet moment. They had made it all the way to the National level but unfortunately didn't qualify to go to Indiana. In the end, everything they had put towards the team paid off. Cole said that one thing that he learned from the family is that “ you'll never get anything out of it if you don't put it all into it.”
So as you can see the FFA organization has impacted the lives of the Spurger Chapter and showed that life isn't always perfect but if put everything in it it pays off. To conclude this article with the FFA motto “ LEARNING TO DO, DOING TO LEARN, EARNING TO LIVE, LIVING TO SERVE”
