Behind the school Cafeteria
Oh Christmas tree!! Our 3rd graders had a special visit from Mrs. Leann Monk with The Tyler County Courthouse, along with Buck Hudson and Andrew Harmon. Each year, 3rd graders are invited to the courthouse to make ornaments which adorn the official Tyler County Christmas tree. This year, because of the times, Mrs. Monk and her friends visited our school. She asked the students to think about something that makes them happy and to recall that moment during trying times. They then handed out treat bags with cocoa and Christmas cards to the students, followed with Christmas carols to conclude their time together. Thank you for coming out to visit our students and spreading Christmas cheer at Spurger Elementary. 🌲☺️
If your student is working from home, please remind them to check their school email daily (8-12, especially the college students) and engage in each of their google classrooms each day by 11:59pm. Daily attendance is generated by turning in work and responding to teachers. If there is no interaction with each teacher each day, they will be counted absent from that class.

Dear Pirate Family,
On Monday December 7, 2020 Spurger ISD will resume face to face instruction. If you believe it is in your child’s best interest to remain remote until Christmas break please email Teresa Franklin at franklint@spurgerisd.org by Friday afternoon December 4th. If your child remains remote they will be required to complete the work that is assigned to them each day.
If you choose to send your child back to school please continue to self-evaluate them each morning before arriving on campus. The COVID guidelines are as follows:
In evaluating whether an individual has symptoms consistent with COVID-19, consider the following questions: Have they recently begun experiencing any of the following in a way that is not normal for them?
Feeling feverish or a measured temperature greater than or equal to 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit
Loss of taste or smell
Cough
Sore throat
Runny nose or congestion
Difficulty breathing
Shortness of breath
Headache
Chills
Shaking or exaggerated shivering
Significant muscle pain or ache
Diarrhea, vomiting, or abdominal pain
Known close contact with a person who is lab confirmed to have COVID-19
Fatigue
We will continue to enforce masks and social distancing.

Dear Pirate Family,
We have been actively monitoring our COVID case numbers over the past week. We have charted a steady increase in staff and students. We also know there seems to be a spike in our community as well. After a few days of discussion we believe it is in the best interest of the students, staff and our Spurger Community that we exercise a five day remote option the week of November 30th - December 4th. Spurger ISD will be solely remote for one week, and we believe this will help control the exposure numbers. Our desire to be remote for a week is that it will prevent the District from having a major outbreak. I want to commend the staff, students, and you, the parents for helping us follow the guidance that was put in place by the State. Up until now our numbers have been fairly low, and this success is credited to each of you diligently working together. We know the break has allowed us to travel and visit family members, and that is something we all have needed, including myself. The potential for increased exposure has become evident in the growing numbers being reported. We want to do our part to protect everyone that is a part of Spurger ISD. We will resume Face to Face instruction on December 7th. If you need WiFi devices for connection, we have some available. You may contact Ms Wilson at wilsona@spurgerisd.org. Stay safe.
Pirate On,
Morgan Wright
Spurger ISD Superintendent

Homecoming Parade Information
Hello Pirate Family,
I previously sent out a letter about the Homecoming Parade. This will be the final correspondence before the parade on Friday. The parade will be Friday , November 20th at 4:30. If you have a float, it will need to be in its’ selected location by 4:15. I have attached the line up. The number will be painted on the highway.
It is okay to throw candy. The spectators do not have to pick it up, it is their choice as to whether or not they consume the candy. As I previously mentioned, there will be a float contest this year and in years to come. The winners will get a ribbon and a prize.
The floats will be lined up on the highway beside Motts as in previous years. No child will be permitted to ride a float without a waiver. These were sent home last week. Do not leave your child unattended! Make sure that they are on a float with a waiver signed before you leave.
The ending location of the parade will be the school. When the parade is over, retrieve your child and do not linger. We cannot have mass congregations of people, due to COVID-19. Please keep your distance and remain as safe as possible. It is encouraged that you wear a mask. The state law states that children under the age of 10 do not have to wear a mask. Use your discretion in keeping yourself safe. Refer to the CDC guidelines for more information on this matter.
I look forward to a great parade. It is my honor to serve the community. Thank you to all the volunteers that have selflessly given your time to construct these floats. I appreciate you!
Thanks,
Savannah Hudson

Lunch is served! Ben and Adlee enjoyed lunch with Mr. Drake today for receiving 10 perfect scores on their AR tests. Way to go! 😊
NOTIFICATION OF CONFIRMED COVID-19 CASE ON CAMPUS
11/13/2020
Dear Parent/Guardian,
In keeping with Spurger ISD’s practices to respond to COVID-19, we are notifying all student families that a Staff Member who was lab-confirmed to have COVID-19 was present on the Elementary on 11/11/2020. You are receiving this notice, because you or your child was present on the campus in the seven days prior to the individual’s diagnosis of COVID-19. Due to privacy requirements, we will not be releasing the name of the individual or details that may identify him or her.
Spurger ISD’s Mitigation Plan provides for extensive cleaning and sanitization protocols, as well as social distancing procedures, including the wearing of face masks. As such, CDC guidance provides that the risk of someone contracting COVID-19 from the staff member is low and this notice is being provided in an abundance of caution. The local health department has begun a case investigation and will contact any individuals determined to be in close contact with the infected individual. All students and staff that came into close contact will be directly notified no later than 11/13/2020. Those that were in close contact will remain off campus for up to 14 days to ensure they do not have the virus, so that there will not be any further spread. We will keep you apprised of further updates.
Any of the following symptoms indicate a possible COVID-19 infection:
Temperature of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher when taken by mouth;
Sore throat;
New uncontrolled cough that causes difficulty breathing (or, for students with a chronic allergic/asthmatic cough, a change in their cough from baseline);
Diarrhea, vomiting, or abdominal pain; or
New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever.
If you or any member of the Elementary School community does begin experiencing any of these symptoms in a way that is not typical, we encourage you to contact your physician. We encourage anyone in the Elementary School community who is lab-confirmed to have COVID19 to please notify our school by contacting (409) 429-3464.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to huttop@spurgerisd.org or visit our website at https://www.spurgerisd.org/ .
Sincerely,
Morgan Wright
